Student-leader ‘slaps’ colleague

Moshood Olajide, a 200-Level Sociology and Anthropology student of the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) in Ile-Ife, Osun State, got more than he bargained for when he decided to advise freshers to participate in unionism.

The advice allegedly earned him slaps from a colleague, identified as Mubarak Akinkunmi, who is said to be a member of the caretaker committee set up by management to oversee the Students’ Union Government (SUG).

It all happened at Angola Hall last Thursday when Moshood, a student-activist, told the freshers to disregard an earlier announcement by the hostel’s representative, Dele Williams, a 200-Level International Relations student, warning them against taking part in unionism.

Dele, it was learnt, told the freshers that they would be rusticated if they participated in unionism. He cited the case of Olawale Ogunruku, a fresher who was allegedly suspended in 2011 for protesting against acceptance fee increment. Olawale, he said, is still regretting his action as management was yet to reinstate him.

But, the advice did not go down well with Moshood, who also went round the Hall of Residence to tell the freshers to participate in unionism. He confronted Dele and told him to stop discouraging the freshers.

Moshood accused Dele of attempting to criminalise Olawale’s action, which he described as “justifiable”.

As they arguing, chairman of the SUG Caretaker Committee Michael Ajala came in with some students, including Mubarak.

Mubarak allegedly hit Moshood and slapped him for speaking against the caretaker committee. Moshood, it was learnt, maintained his cool in the face of provocation.

CAMPUSLIFE learnt that the attack may not be unconnected with Moshood’s resignation from the committee as the public relations officer four months ago. His resignation followed an allegation that the committee is management’s puppet.

After allegedly slapping Moshood, Mubarak was added to the private social media platform of the committee as a member, an action other members are frowning at.

A member of the committee, who asked not to be named, said: “I am surprised the committee chairman is encouraging rascality. How would he add someone who was unruly in the presence of many students to our private page? Michael is making the committee to lose its integrity among students.”

Condemnation is trailing Mubarak’s action, with students asking him to stop hiding behind the union’s
façade to “display rascality”.

President of OAU’s chapter of the Association of Campus Journalists (ACJ) Olanrewaju Oyedeji said:

“Slapping is an offence on the campus and any member of the union is not expected to support it. Why should any student slap his colleague because of difference of opinion? This only makes mockery of the caretaker committee.”

Muraina Mujeeb, a Local Government Studies student, described Mubarak’s action as “ridiculous”, saying: “This is the most shocking thing I have seen this semester. The caretaker committee is promoting violence on the campus. Nobody should be attacked or slapped for holding a view. We must tolerate people’s opinion, no matter how trivial.”

The development is fueling calls for the dissolution of the caretaker committee. Students took to social media complaining that the committee is not representing their interest.

Ausin Okoro, a student, wrote: “Who are these nonentities calling themselves acting union leaders? Even if the members of the committee lack a level of decorum and discipline, shouldn’t the chairman call them to order? We are surprised the chairman is promoting rascality. This is ridiculous and it is a mockery of what the union stands for. Let the committee be disbanded.”

Another student, who simply identified himself as Comrade Joe, wrote: “Why should anyone slap a fellow student because of difference of opinion? This is a punishable offence. Such a student would not go scot-free if the SUG were to be in place.

The committee members have paraded themselves as thugs. They can’t lead OAU students.”
Moshood declined to speak on the issue when contacted on phone by CAMPUSLIFE.

He said he was invited by members of the committee on Friday for investigation into the case.
Mubarak did not pick our correspondent’s calls. He did not reply our text messages too.

It was learnt that the committee has embarked on reconciliation to appease students. The committee is said to be reaching out to the students’ groups, which have been criticising its members for docility and incompetence.

“So, out of pressure, the man decided to marry a second wife. When the second wife had a baby, she became angry and frustrated. She thought the best thing to do was to kill the child.

“On June 21, around 10pm, she took the baby to the backyard of their house and used a sharp knife to cut off his penis, however, the cry of the baby attracted neighbours, who rushed to the place and found him in a pool of blood.

A secondary school teacher, Cosmos Ubaja, was on Monday arrested by the police in Lagos State for allegedly raping a 14-year-old schoolgirl in Ikorodu area of the state.

The unnamed teenager had gone to Ubaja’s shop to make photocopies after school hours when the accused lured her into sleeping with her.

The suspect, who owns a computer centre in the area, was contracted by the school to teach the junior pupils computer studies.

Ubaja, a father of one, had been raping the girl for months and the girl kept the secret away from her parents.

The last straw which broke the camel’s back was on June 1 when the girl complained to her mother that she had stomach pains and her menstrual cycle was affected.

She was then taken to a private hospital where it was discovered that she had been raped several times.

The teenager confessed that it was the computer instructor who raped her and he was arrested.

According to an eyewitness account, Bala approached the rice dealer, Alhaji Suleiman Bagudu, to buy a bag of rice, which he carried home but left his son, with a promise to rush home to bring the money for the foodstuff.

This, he said, was because the money on him was not enough to pay for the bag of rice, selling for N14,000 per 50kg bag.

Female Lawyer Who Murdered Her Husband In Ibadan Fails To Show Up At Trial, As Friendly Prison Authorities Claim Ill-Health

The trial of Ibadan lawyer Yewande Fatoki-Oyediran for the murder of her husband, Oyelowo Oyediran, did not continue this morning as scheduled as prison authorities claimed she was ill and unable to come to the court.

No medical report was presented to the in the High Court in Ibadan, where the defendant works as a prosecutor, in support of the claim.

Yewande allegedly murdered her husband during the second phase of an attack on him on suspicion of infidelity.

In the first, she had reportedly stabbed her husband with a knife but he was treated in a hospital and survived.

The second attack happened after he returned home to his wife from the hospital.

The accused murderer has been working to stop her trial from proceeding.

By coincidence, Yewande, an influential lawyer, is being tried at the same Ibadan High Court where she works as a prosecutor.

Sources at the court say she is enjoying considerable sympathy from her colleagues, most of who are standing by her in the trial, making professional prosecution almost impossible, as well as support from the prison authorities who are protecting her.

A legal source in Ibadan told SaharaReporters that Yewande's absence in court today is part of the ploy to frustrate the court on her trial.

The source pointed out that Yewande was unsettled after new evidence was introduced during the last court meeting that is capable of canceling out earlier plans by her defence team to prevent the emergence of tangible evidence linking her to the murder.

I went into commercial sex work as a means of survival. I started the work in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. I was told commercial sex was more lucrative in Abuja, so I relocated here in 2015.

“I operated in the Apo area. I thought I could make more money by recruiting some girls to work for me.

I brought the girls and the agreement was that I would pay them N100, 000 after six months. I also promised to take care of their feeding.

“I brought only two of the girls –
Chinedu and John. The other girls were brought by two women known as Mama Cynthia and Azonto.”

Madueke, who hails from Nsukka, Enugu State, denied working with Daniel to recruit the victims for commercial sex work.

He said, “I worked as a hairdresser. In the first week of June, I was in my shop when Chinedu (one of the girls) approached me saying she wanted to learn hairdressing.

“She kept me in a room with the other girls and brought our food to the same room. Every evening, we were taken out to different joints where we slept with several men. I normally collected N1,000 per round from customers.”

Our correspondent learnt that a man, who stayed in the neighbourhood where the girls were locked up, gave the police a tip-off.

A police source said, “The girls were kept in the room and someone usually brought food for them through the window. When we got there, we forced the door open and we discovered that there were six girls.”

Our correspondent gathered that the police were making efforts to arrest the fleeing members of the syndicate.

Group sues NYSC over ‘illegal’ scratch card mobilisation fee

The Citizens Advocacy Initiative For Accountable Leadership, CAIFAL, on Thursday, filed a suit at a Federal High Court Lagos, against the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, over alleged mobilisation fraud.

Also joined as respondents in the legal action are: The Director General of NYSC, Sidmach technologies Ltd, Minister for Youths and Sports, and the Attorney General of the Federation.

CAIFAL in its suit number FHC/L/CS/840/16, is seeking a declaration, that by virtue of the provisions of the NYSC Act 1993, the first to third respondents, have no statutory rights, to demand a pre-mobilisation fee from prospective corps members.

In a supporting affidavit deposed to by one Mike Ogie, the group stated that sometime in 2014, the NYSC introduced an electronic registration programme, where prospective corps members were required to register online with the sum of N3,000 as precedents for mobilisation.

He averred that the NYSC entered into a memorandum of understanding with a company, Sidmach Technologies, to collect the fees on behalf of the NYSC, through the issuance of scratch cards to prospective corps members.

According to him, under the memorandum, 70 percent of the monies collected, would be ceded to the company (Sidmachy), while the balance of 30 percent was reserved for the NYSC.

He averred that the company had since 2014, collected over N1.3 billion on behalf of the NYSC, without remitting any of its proceeds to the Scheme or Federation’s Account.

He averred that the applicant had petitioned the office of the Minister of Youths and Sports, but that the perpetration of the act had not been “called in”.

He further averred that the first, second and third respondents, went into the aforesaid memorandum of understanding, without recourse to the relevant sections of the NYSC Act and the 1999 Constitution.

The group further averred that the acts of the first to third respondents, contradicts the true intent of the NYSC Act, which makes it mandatory for prospective corps members to be compulsorily mobilised for service of their fatherland.

They averred that the Act establishing the NYSC scheme does not provide for the payment of any fee as condition precedent for mobilisation corps members.

The group is, therefore, seeking a declaration, that both the previous collection, and continued collection of the monies from prospective corps members, is illegal, wrongful and improper.

They are seeking an order, directing the first and second respondents to immediately render account of all monies so far realised from corps members since the inception of its collection in 2014.

The group is also seeking an order of perpetual injunction restraining the NYSC from further collecting any money from prospective corps members, as a pre-mobilisation or re-deployment fee.

Furthermore, the group is seeking an order, directing the first and second respondents to release or make public, the memorandum of understanding executed between them and the company

Photo: We pretend to be commercial drivers in Lagos – Robbery suspect

Operatives of the Rapid Response Squad, RRS, of the Lagos State Police Command at the weekend arrested a gang of robbers who robbed two passengers in the Gbagada area of the state.

The syndicate, 26-year-old Ubuke Michael, and Obinna Okoro, 24, were arrested after their operational bus, with number plate FST 890 XM, had picked up the two passengers going to the Alaba International Market and Ladipo Spare Part Market to buy goods.

One of the victims, Boniface Anusionwu, said he had gone to withdraw some money from the bank for his business and house rent when he boarded the vehicle of the suspects.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dolapo Badmos, paraded the gang before newsmen in the state, noting that upon completion of investigation, the suspects would be charged to court.

The leader of the gang, Ubuke, in his confession said “The driver and the conductor are familiar with the operation. I have so many commercial buses that I call for operations. I call them to join me at a particular location.

“The driver and the conductor would do their normal work, while we collect belongings of the passengers before dropping them off. The two passengers in the bus were our victims that day.

“One of them came out of a bank before boarding our bus, while we noticed that the other had bulging pockets. We were about to collect their belongings when we were arrested.

“We don’t normally carry more than two passengers during operations. And whatever money we make, we share with the driver and the conductor; but our share is usually more,” Ubuke added.

I’ve raped over 5 girls including my sister – Awawa cultist

A 30-year-old man, Jimoh Sanni, aka Last Born suspected to be a member of the ruthless band of robbers popularly called ‘Awawa’ in Lagos state, has revealed his involvement in robberies and rapes.

The ‘Awawa’ members, who are usually cultists, are known to unleash mayhem, loot shops, attack residents at gunpoint and specialize in terrorizing and raping young girls in Agege area of the state.

Sanni, who was arrested by operatives of the state Task Force alongside 14 others, revealed that he had raped more than five girls, including his sister (unknown to him) around Dopemu area of Agege.
Confessing before newsmen at the weekend, Sanni said, “I live at 4, Akinlabi Street, Agbotikuyo, in Agege. I am from Okene in Kogi State.

“I am a sectional head of Awawa Boys and have raped more than five girls around Dopemu area. My gang has burgled many shops at Aluminium Village and sold Indian hemp at beer parlours and night clubs at N100 per wrap before we go for our usual night robbery operations.

“We collect N2, 000 to N3, 000 every day from individual aluminum shop owners at Dopemu area and we buy Indian hemp from another Awawa Boys’ kingpin named Olata, at Oloosha area at Mushin.”

Reacting to the arrest, the Commissioner of Police, CP, Fatai Owoseni, directed that the suspects should all be immediately charged to court.

The CP disclosed the names of the other suspects as Olayemi Lasege, 38, Opeyemi Oluwasola, 33, Timothy Ogar, 32, Adebayo Nurudeen, 32, Popoola Fatai, 30, Jimoh Sanni, 30, Ajayi Babatunde Lukumon, 29, Popoola Yakubu, 27, Owolabi Adediran 27, Akerele Sunday, 25, Ajose Anthony, 24, Sanusi Afeez, 23, Adewunmi Oluwatobi, 21, Actor Amechi, 21 and Ajibade Oluwafemi, 20.

“Operatives of the Lagos State Task Force arrested the cult members at Dopemu area of Agege after they received intelligence report on the disturbing activities of notorious Awawa Boys.

“During the operation which was carried out at midnight and led by SP Olayinka Egbeyemi, Chairman, Lagos State Task Force, the suspects and other affiliated group leaders fought the officers with dangerous weapons before they were overpowered,” the CP stated.

Meanwhile, the 66-year-old father of two of the suspects (Popoola Fatai and Popoola Yakubu), Alhaji Musibaudeen Popoola, lamented he had warned his children to stop following these bad gangs around Dopemu area.

Alhaji Popoola said, “I found it extremely difficult to believe when I was told that two of my sons were among those arrested members of Awawa Boys.

“I only came, as a disciplined father, to tell them that the end has come. It is going to be a big lesson to other children that they must obey their parents,” Popoola added.

Church elder stuck in friend’s wife during sex in Akwa Ibom

It was a dramatic scene for residents of Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, as a man said to be an elder in an unidentified church was caught stuck inside his friend’s wife during an adulterous sex.

The man, who was identified as Elder Ndarake, was caught stuck inside a woman during one of his usual round of adulterous sex.

The woman’s husband, name given simply as Ekanem, a fisherman, said though he got signals that Elder Ndarake, a married man with five children, always visited his house whenever he was away on his fishing trips which sometimes lasted weeks, he never suspected that he could have amorous relationship with his wife and mother of seven children.

He said, “I have known Elder Ndarake for many years and he was even the one that recommended my wife to me when I wanted to get married.

“He stood in for me during the traditional marriage as I lost my father at an early age.

“As such, coming to my house even in my absence, I never suspected anything because apart from his closeness to me, he is an elder in our local church and always preached against immorality.

“Even when people told me that he went to my house at odd hours when I am not around, I still believed he went there to see to the welfare of my family.

”But I was shocked when three young men from our village came to look for me where I was fishing to tell me that Obong Idung (Village Head), wanted me to come home as fast as I could.

“I thought our village had been attacked by our neighbours in Cross River state, so I hurried home, only to meet Elder Ndarake in the full view of people, naked and stuck inside my wife’s private part.

“If not for people that restrained me, I would have macheted him to death because I was very angry.

“Though people said I placed Mbiam (powerful traditional charm) on my wife, I did not do such thing. It was our gods that wanted to disgrace them.

“They were later disentangled after some sacrifices by a local native doctor but I have handed over my wife to him. I don’t want her again,” Ekanem narrated.

Minister of Education orders refund of post-UTME fees to candidates

Minister of Education, Malam Adamu Adamu has directed all tertiary institutions that have conducted post-UTME examination to immediately refund money taken
from candidates.

The minister has also declared that post-UTME examinations already taken are null and void; threatening that any institution caught still conducting the examination under any guise would be sanctioned.

The minister made this position known yesterday, in a press statement issued by Deputy Director Press and Public Relations, Ben Bem Goong.

The strong-worded statement reiterated the Ministry’s position that post-UTME examinations have been cancelled with immediate effect and no institution should conduct such examinations.

The minister warned that once the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has certified a candidate worthy of admission into any of the tertiary institutions, that candidate must be deemed fit by the institution.

According to the statement, students who have already been offered admission by JAMB may be screened by the institutions but this must not involve the conduct of any other entry examination. The candidates can be screened by verifying their certificates but not through the conduct of examinations.

The minister stated that it is unnecessary to subject students to further examinations when they have been offered examinations by JAMB since they will still have to go through between eight or 12-semester examinations throughout their four to six years study in the institutions.

The minister, therefore, directed the National Universities Commission (NUC) and appropriate departments in the Ministry to communicate the directive to relevant agencies and institutions to ensure strict compliance.

“Those who have already advertised for the conduct of the Post-UTME under any guise should stop the exercise immediately as any university caught conducting Post-UTMNE will face appropriate sanctions. If any tertiary Institution has already conducted Post-UTME, such an exercise stands annulled and money taken from such candidates must be refunded immediately”, the Minister said.

The directive to stop the post-UTME examinations was given by the minister nearly a month ago.

The minister said through the statement that it was important to emphasise the directive in order to ensure that no stakeholder is left in doubt as to government’s position on the matter.

He affirmed that the responsibility for admission into public tertiary institutions lies solely with JAMB and under no circumstance whatsoever, should anybody or institution take over that responsibility by proxy.

“The ban is with immediate effect, and under no circumstance should any institution violate the directive”.
“Any educational institution after secondary education is regarded as a tertiary institution.

Therefore all tertiary institutions, Polytechnics, Colleges of Education, Universities or by whatever name it is called after secondary education must be subjected to admission through the JAMB.

At the end of probationary admission by JAMB, the candidates can be cleared (screened) for final admission. For any institution with a shortfall in admission, such institution can revert to JAMB for supplementary admission”.

“Clearing in this case (screening) entails only the verification of certificates of the candidates, JAMB scores, and any other physical examination to ensure that such candidates are not cultists. After this, the candidates are qualified for matriculation.

Such screening should be at no cost to the parents or students and should be done upon resumption in order to avoid unnecessary travels in search of admission”, the minister said,
For secondary school leavers who are seeking admission into the tertiary institutions, Malam Adamu said that subjecting them to too many examinations all in one year, is traumatic, exploitative and absolutely unnecessary.

This is besides the cost of travelling, hotel accommodation and examination fees that parents have to incur in their bid to secure admission for their wards.

Be job creators instead of job seekers, don advises students

Prof. Ernest Ayiedun, the Director, Centre for Entrepreneurship Development, University of Abuja, has advised students to be job creators instead of being job seekers, for the economic growth of Nigeria.

Aiyedun gave the advice on Monday in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja.

He said that students should be able to use their creative ability to do things that would contribute to economic and human development in the country.

According to him, the aim of the Federal Government in establishing the Centre for Entrepreneurship in higher institutions is to help tackle the menace of youth unemployment in the society.

``I encourage every student to key into entrepreneurship for self-fulfillment in the society, so as to be job creators for total economic transformation.

``They can go into liquid soap making, tailoring, hair styling, shoe making and many more as the training for all is not gender sensitive.

``We have entrepreneurship courses for all the students. We do both the theoretical and practical aspects of it.

``We do not impose interest in students, but ask them to write down their interest and then we approve.

``Their teachers are well equipped as they attend workshops and training from time to time,’’ said the director.
He further advised them to balance their time management even as they engage in entrepreneurial activities.

“All prospective 2016/2017 UTME and Direct Entry candidates that chose University of Lagos as their first choice should regularly visit the website (www.unilag.edu.ng) for more information.”

Disrespect: Buhari’s wife extends her hand to shake Alaafin of Oyo

The wife of President Muhammadu Buhari, Aisha, has reportedly breached a major protocol during the recent meeting with Oba Lamidi Olayiwola Adeyemi III, the Alaafin of Oyo.

This picture was taken recently when Aisha Buhari paid a visit to Oyo to promote her women health program.

During the meeting, Buhari’s wife extended her hand to shake the Alaafin.

Nigerians immediately reacted to the picture that gone viral.

Reacting to the gesture, Governor
Ayodele Fayode 's media aide, Lere Olayinka , berated the President's wife, saying she would not disrespect the Emir of Daura, Buhari's hometown like that.

“Can Aisha Buhari greet the Emir of Daura with a handshake as she is doing here to the Iku Baba Yeye, Alaafin of Oyo?," Olayinka wrote on Twitter.

3 wounded in Abakaliki over Ronaldo, Messi superiority argument

Three football fans were wounded in a free-for-all in a bar in Abakaliki on Saturday night over an argument about who is a better player between Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.
A correspondent who witnessed the melee reports that the incident occurred at the Kpirikpiri area of the town during the EURO 2016 second round match between Portugal and Croatia.
Portugal won the match 1-0 courtesy of a Ricardo Quaresma 114th minute-extra time goal that sent them into the competition’s quarter-finals.
Trouble started when a Ronaldo supporter identified as ``Marshal’’ celebrated widely as the Real Madrid star’s shot was parried into Quaresma’s path for the goal to the consternation of the Messi’s supporter named Obinna.
The duo had argued all night over the better player between both mega stars.
Immediately Quaresma scored, Marshal rushed to Obinna and mocked him, chanting ``I told you, I told you Ronaldo is the best’’.
Obinna who apparently was reeling with anger pushed Marshal and a fight ensued which made others inside the bar to intervene.
Matters, however, went out of hand when Marshal’s friends felt that Obinna’s friends were indirectly aiding him in the fight, thus making the fight instantly a free-for-all.
The bar owner, identified simply as Simon, rushed outside to invite people within the compound as those inside couldn’t control the situation.
However, calm was eventually restored but three persons, including Obinna were seriously wounded, while Simon immediately closed before the match could end.
On the development, Simon said that both fans always argued on the issue of Real Madrid and Barcelona superiority.
``I banned them from coming to my shop but this is their first visit since the commencement of the competition.
``It took the intervention of others inside the shop for me to allow them, as I was sure that their acrimony toward each other goes beyond Ronaldo and Messi supremacy,’’ he said.
Dr Obiora Ike, a youth activist, decried the level of fanaticism being displayed by young soccer fans in the state, especially over foreign clubs and players.
``This sort of incident occurs regularly and one wonders why people should fight and disturb themselves over clubs and footballers who do not even know that they exist.
``It is time the relevant authorities should seriously address this issue before it gets out of hand and curiously, none of these fanatics has such sentiment for Nigerian clubs and players,’’ he said.
DSP George Okafor, the State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, said that the incident had not been officially reported.
He added that the command always dealt with such issues decisively.
``Football hooliganism is a societal malaise as it is only foolish people who indulge in it,’’ he said.

Day-old baby found dead in Ekiti river

The body of a day-old baby was Saturday morning discovered in a river along Ijogbo/Atikankan junction in Ado-Ekiti.

Residents and commuters plying the route all rushed to the scene to take a look at the dead baby.

Some residents and shop owners around the area rained curses on the mother of the baby for dumping such an innocent male child in the river after giving birth.

The baby was dumped along side the placenta.

Residents suspect that the baby must have been killed by the mother and dumped inside the river at night.

One of the residents, who declined to mention her name, said the baby must have been dumped into the river by a prostitute.

“Only a wicked woman, who lacks conscience will do such an act. The woman does not know the consequences of her action.

In a situation where some women are crying to God to bless them with a child, another one gave birth to such a handsome baby boy and dumped him inside the river. What a sad situation”, one of the residents lamented.

The incident caused traffic gridlock along the busy Ijigbo/Irona market road as residents, drivers, and okada riders stopped at the scene.

Policemen later got to the place and took the body of the baby away.

A lecturer in the Theatre Arts Department of the College of Education Oju in Benue state, Godwin Abuul, has been allegedly murdered by his wife, name withheld, in connivance with her siblings over alleged extra marital affairs.

Saturday Vanguard gathered that Abuul who went missing about two weeks ago in Gboko was killed by his murderers who also dumped his remains in River Katsina/Ala.

According to a family source who craved anonymity, the deceased two weeks ago went missing in Gboko after returning from Oju where he lectured at the state owned College of Education. Narrating the story he said, “Goddy used to lecture at the College of Education in Oju.

He travels weekly from here in Gboko to Oju to lecture after which he returns to Gboko to spend his weekend with his wife and two children.

“After killing him, they allegedly dumped his body in River Katsina/Ala and also went ahead to sell his Honda car to an innocent buyer for the sum of N650,000 and of that sum, the wife of the murdered lecturer was given the sum of N400, 000 as her share of the proceed.”

The Algerian team, has among other stars Riyad Mahrez of Leicester City who emerged the best player in the English Premier League last season.

The tough draw no doubt was a result of Nigeria ’ s current football ranking which made the Eagles were placed in Pot 2 while seeded teams were in Pot 1 In this group the Eagles are third in terms of ranking .

Algeria are the number one on the continent and they are 32nd in world rankings while Cameroon are 9th in Africa and 58th in the world .

Group A of the qualifiers has DR Congo , Libya , Guinea, Tunisia, while Gabon , Morocco , Cote d ’ Ivoire and Mali are to compete in Group C .

Group D comprises Burkina Faso, South Africa , Cape Verde and Group E has Uganda, Congo , Egypt Ghana.

A minute silence was observed for late former Super Eagles Head Coach, Stephen Keshi, at the draw ceremony in Cairo .

“ It is a tough draw, but then I have always said that you have to beat the best to get to the World Cup .

Now we have the draw , we know how to prepare .

The preparation has to start right now and we must make good use of every single day leading to the kick – off of the series , ” NFF president Amaju Pinnick said .

Missing Abuja businesswoman fear killed as friends allege cover up

Friends of missing Abuja-based businesswoman, Charity Eiyadogbon, say they believe she might have been killed shortly after she was abducted on May 11, 2016.

Forty-four-year-old Charity, who is said to be separated from her husband, David, vanished without a trace, without informing anyone of any trip even though a curious message was found on her Facebook wall saying she was going on a road trip.

Her friends who believe she might have been forced to write this on Facebook to make it look as if she indeed travelled, said unpacked luggage in her apartment and a full pot of soup in her kitchen showed that she did not plan to go anywhere.

It was learnt that Charity, who got married in 1988 at the age of 16, had been separated from her husband, David, for about two years, while her children live with their father.

The police said David had been invited over the whereabouts of his ex-wife, but did not reveal if he is seen as a suspect.

A US-based lawyer, Mr. Emeka Ugwuonye, who has taken up the campaign for the search of the mother of three and popularly called Deepdeal-Chacha-Dehammer, said in a statement that some people had been arrested over the case, but feared the police were arresting people for all the wrong reasons.

Shocking confession: I police in the day and rob at night – Anti-robbery policeman

In a series of shocking revelations, an armed robbery suspect, Chris Oboko, a corporal attached to the C4I unit of the Nigeria Police in Rivers State, has told investigators how an informant “lured” him into a gang of car snatchers.

Thirty five-year-old Oboko, who has now been dismissed from the force, was recently arrested in Port Harcourt, during a mop-up of criminal elements responsible for incessant robberies and carjacking in the state by the Inspector-General of Police Special Intelligence Response Team.

For him, the lure of armed robbery loot was something he could not simply resist.

According to him, the turning point for him was when he encountered two members of a robbery and kidnapping gang, who were in the process of selling the cars they got from one of their victims.

Investigators in the case said Oboko’s arrest seems to validate the shade of opinion that ‘bad eggs’ in the force are responsible for the bad conduct of some policemen.

Oboko, who joined the force in 2003 said he was living at the police barracks on Iche Street, Borokiri, Port Harcourt, while ‘moonlighting’ as a robber.

It that was learnt that he first served at the Boroki Police Division, before being transferred to the Special Anti-Robbery Squad. He told journalists that he became a member of the C4I unit after that.

But in 2015, Oboko decided to join the ranks of the men of the underworld whom he had sworn to protect the society against.

Aisha Buhari Blows Hot, Writes Warning Letter to Gov. Fayose

Following the drama stirred by Governor Ayodele Fayose’s comments dragging Aisha Buhari through the mud, the President’s wife has written to the governor.

Following the drama stirred by Governor Ayodele Fayose’s comments dragging Aisha Buhari through the mud, the President’s wife has written to the governor.

Aisha Buhari, the Wife of the President, has, on Wednesday, demanded a full retraction of a widely-circulated material distributed by Ekiti State governor, Ayo Fayose, in which he claimed to have uncovered how Mrs. Buhari was allegedly mentioned as having transferred funds to a convicted former U.S. lawmaker, Williams Jefferson.

In a warning letter dispatched through her legal representatives, Mrs. Buhari said Mr. Fayose’s action was directly responsible for the publication of the “very wild and unfounded” allegations in the media.

Through the letter, titled: “Demand for unqualified retraction of the false statement published by you in various media on the 20th of June, 2016, and subsequent dates regarding our client, Her Excellency, Mrs. Aisha Buhari the wife of President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR,” the president’s wife gave Mr. Fayose five working days to retract the statement or face legal action.

“Our client has referred to us statement made by you and published on the 20th of June, 2016 (and other subsequent days) concerning and pertaining to her person for necessary action.

“The said statement which was caused by you and your agents to be widely circulated and published in various media platforms: print, electronic and online such as PREMIUM TIMES www.premiumtimesng.com on 20th of June, 2016, contains very wild, unfounded and false allegations and imputations against the person of our client.

“Specifically, in the said statement credited to you and signed by your Chief Press Secretary, Idowu Adelusi, you, inter alia, false stated as follows:

“Even the president cannot claim to be an angel. The estate he built in Abuja is known to us. His wife was indicted over the Halliburton Scandal (sic). When that American, Jeferson, was being sentenced, the President’s wife was mentioned as having wired $170,000 to Jefferson. Her name was on page 25 of the sentencing of Jefferson. We can serialise the judgement for people to see and read,” Ismaila Alasa and Mary Ekpene, who signed the letter on behalf of the law firm, said.

“Take notice that unless you and your agents meet our humble demands within 5 (five) working days of the receipt of this letter, we shall take all necessary steps within the contemplation of the law to seek redress for our client.”

Presidential spokesman, Femi Adesina, could not immediately confirm or deny if Mary Ekpere & Co. is indeed the solicitors to Mr. Buhari.

Mr. Fayose had on Monday evening distributed a statement which contained excerpts of court documents sourced from the United States Department of Justice Website.

In the statement, Mr. Fayose said Mrs. Buhari was an accomplice in the bribery scandal that landed Mr. Jefferson in jail, saying he added the link as a proof.

Although an Aisha Buhari was mentioned in the case files, those who investigated the matter have, however, said that Aisha Buhari is an impostor and not the wife of Mr. Buhari.

Two former chairman of Nigeria’s anti-graft agency, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, have come out within the past two days say Mrs. Buhari had no connection with the Jefferson bribery scandal.
