Three in police net for gang rape of 16-year-old in Lagos

The Lagos State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti, Yaba on Monday said it had arrested three men for alleged gang rape of a 16-year-old girl.

An authoritative police source at the SCID told the News Agency of Nigeria in Lagos that the incident occurred on June 16 at 7, Kaka Street, Ayobo, Ipaja.

The source told NAN that two of the suspects, now at large, lured the victim to their friend’s house at the above address where they took turns in raping her.

The source said that after sometime, the owner of house, Samuel Akpan, also came in and drove the other two, simply identified as Sadiq and Fatai, out and began to take his turn.

According to the source, Akpan later invited two others, Shola Owolabi and Michael Lanre, to join him.

He noted that the gang’s movement in and out of Akpan’s room attracted the landlord who forced the door open and caught them in the act.

The source added: “The three men made a video recording of their act as they raped the girl one after the other.

“They also threatened to kill the girl and dump her corpse should she raise an alarm as they enjoyed themselves.”

The landlord, Shakiru Akinola, told NAN that some of his tenants were the ones who drew his attention to the unusual happening in Akpan’s room.

Akinola said: “On that fateful day, I returned from the hospital and was resting when some tenants called to inform me the movements of some men in Akpan’s room.

“So, I managed to walk to the room to knock, asking them to open the door, which they refused.

“So, I was compelled to force the door open and caught them having sex with the girl and videoing the actions with their phones.

“At this point, the girl was weak and I rescued her and immediately bought a tin of milk and a can of malt to make her regain strength.

“While the men were watching her, I sneaked out to inform the police and they arrived at scene almost immediately to apprehend them.”

Meanwhile, the police have said the girl was undergoing medical examination and treatment in an undisclosed hospital.

The police added that the suspects would be taken to court soon.

54-year-old man abducts, defiles 11-year-old girl in Ekiti

A 54-year-old man, Gbenga Adebayo, has been remanded in prison custody by a magistrate court in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State Capital, for allegedly abducting and defiling 11 -year old Joke Aliu (not real name).

It was gathered that Adebayo lured the girl to follow him to his aged mother’s place in Usi-Ekiti , some 60 kilometres away from Ado-Ekiti, and camped her there for three weeks. He was allegedly visiting her there regularly and sleeping with her.

Meanwhile, in Ado-Ekiti, the same Adebayo was pretending to join the search team for the girl, who were going from one neighbourhood to another to look for her.

According to the girl, Adebayo promised to rescue her from her school teacher with whom she was staying in their apartment in Adebayo area of Ado-Ekiti, on the grounds that the teacher was harsh on her.

“Gbenga Adebayo is my neighbour. He used to ask me to buy things for him. One day he approached me, saying he wanted to help me because my teacher was harsh on me. He said he would rescue me from my teacher and take good care of me. He then took me to his mother’s place in Usi-Ekiti.

” Whenever he comes there, he used to sleep with me. He has done this for 10 times now.

“I was at his mother’s place for three weeks after which I refused to sleep with him again and because of that, he decided to take me to my aunt’s place in Akure. He told my aunt that he found me in his mother’s place in Ushi and decided to help me by taking me to her. He is the first man in my life, ” the girl said.

Speaking on the development, the girl’s other aunt in Ado-Ekiti, Mrs.
Theresa Agboola, who disclosed that she (victim) is an orphan, having lost both her parents some years ago, said: “The girl was staying with her female school teacher (name withheld) who lives in a rented apartment behind Olagold, opposite Ekiti State Teaching Hospital, (EKSUTH) in Adebayo area.

”About a month ago, June 5 precisely, the girl’s teacher had called to inform me that she was missing and that the whole occupants in the house, including the suspect, Gbenga Adebayo, were searching for her.

That continued till June 29, when my sister from Akure called to tell me that the girl was brought to her by a man whom she identified as the same Gbenga Adebayo. It was then we suspected a foul play.

” We reasoned that if indeed Adebayo was sincere, he cannot be the same man who was part of the search team for the girl for three weeks here in Ado-Ekiti and also be the one who would now take her to my sister’s place in Akure after finding her.

We then reported the case to the police who promptly arrested Adebayo and charged him to court.

Last Friday, the magistrate court in Ado-Ekiti has remanded him in prison. We also gathered that he has been sleeping with the girl before eventually taking her to his mother, ” she alleged.

Confirming the Development, Ekiti State Police Public Relations Offcer, Alberto Adeyemi, said the suspect has been charged to court with charges of defilement.

A 45-year-old man identified as Moruf Mohammed was on Thursday paraded by the Lagos State Police Command for raping a 7-year-old girl, identified simply as Dupe.

“The victim is traumatised and is being medically attended to at Mirabel Medical Centre, Ikeja,” Owoseni stated.

The victim’s mother said her daughter was sexually violated by Mohammed, stating that she found her daughter bleeding.

She however debunked Mohammed’s claim that they were lovers.

She said, “I went out, leaving Dupe with her older siblings.

“The oldest among them was 20 years. I returned home around 2pm and found Dupe was sleeping. I asked her what was wrong with her. She said she wasn’t feeling well. She said a man gave her money.

“She said the man asked her where her mother was, she told him that her mum wasn’t around.

“He then took her to a back door. She said he put his fingers into her and later his manhood. He told her not to tell anyone.

Supreme Court affirms 5-yr imprisonment or N300, 000 fine for rape of minor

The Supreme Court on Friday affirmed the five-year jail term with hard labour passed on Afor Lucky for raping a minor.

The option of N300, 000 fine was also upheld by the apex court.

Delivering the judgment, Justice Sylvester Ngwuta held that it was proved beyond reasonable doubt that the convict had forceful carnal knowledge of the minor.

``The convict has successfully killed something in the psyche of the victim, leaving the poor girl devastated and with a permanent scar for life.

``The principle of inviolability of a sentence not appealed against, which I am duty bound to apply herein most regrettable and painfully appears to give credence to the saying that the law is an ass.

``Maybe the asinine attribute is not inherent in the law but in the application of its provision as amply demonstrated in this case.

``The provision has provided for 14 years maximum jail term for rape but the trial judge decided to give Lucky five.

``In conclusion, having resolved the five issues, except one, against the convict, I therefore dismiss the appeal for want of merit.

``The judgment of the Court below which affirmed the judgment of the trial Court is hereby affirmed,’’ Ngwuta held.

The convict was charged with rape, punishable under Section 358 of the Criminal Code Cap C21 Vol.1 Laws of Delta State of Nigeria, 2006.

The particulars of offence held that Lucky, on or about April 7, 2007 at Ole in Delta State, had carnal knowledge of the five-year-old girl.
