Polytechnics to continue screening admission seekers

News reports have shown that polytechnics and colleges of technology in the country may still organise another round of screening for candidates after the JAMB examinations.

A couple of weeks ago, the Federal Government announced that it had cancelled the post-UTME test

usually organised by respective tertiary institutions after candidates have passed the Joint Examination and Matriculation Board examination.

However, Rector of Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin and chairman of
Association of Rectors of Polytechnic and Colleges of Technology in Nigeria (COHEADS), Alh Mas’ud Elelu, said his school would conduct “ pre-admission security and certificate verification screening ” for those seeking admission into the polytechnic.

According to him, the purpose of the screening was to avoid admitting applicants of questionable character.

“ We need to be careful in order not to admit students who had been expelled from other institutions and as well ascertain the genuineness of applicants’ certificates, ” he said.

Elelu said the screening was aimed at guiding against admitting students with fake certificates and cultists expelled from other schools who might want to seek admission into the institution.

He also mentioned that the screening will have financial implications.
